Miqat Dhul Hulaifa Mosque

The Miqat Dhul Halifa Mosque is a historic mosque in  Abyar Ali, Madinah. It is also known as Masjid ash-Shajarah, and is located at the west of Wadi-Al-Aqiq. It is approximately 17 kilometres Madinah. It is one of the Miqats, which is the place where one enters the state of Ihram. It is commonly visited by pilgrims as it is not far from the Masjid an-Nabawi.

The Miqat Dhul Hulaifa Mosque was built in the time of Umar Ibn Abdulaziz in around 87-93 Hijri. At that time, it was a small mosque. After that, around 1554 Hijri, it was renovated again by Zayn al-Din al-Istidar. A great wall was built around the Mosque, which was still standing until the Ottoman Rule. It was at that time the Mosque was rebuilt with the mihrab in the middle of the wall directing Qibla.

The Miqat Dhul Hulaifa Mosque holds significant importance in Islam. It was defined by the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) as the Miqat for those residing in Madinah. It is the second-largest Miqat point after Miqat Qarn al-Manazil. It is believed that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), after the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah, entered the state of Ihram in the Miqat Dhul Hulaifa Mosque.

The Miqat Dhul Hulaifah Mosque that we see today was built in the reign of King Fahd. The Mosque is in a square shape and is extended upon almost 6,000 square meters. Because it is a Miqat point, there are a lot of bath and Wudhu facilities. Because it is the primary Miqat point for Madinah, there are a lot of people year-round. The abundance in Ihram facilities takes care of thousands of people at a time.

The Miqat Dhul Hulaifa has 13 domes with five minarets and is an architectural feat. Islamic Architecture with influences of Byzantine and Mamluk Architecture is seen. There are several modern facilities in addition to the Ihram facilities at the location. If you are looking for Ihram essentials, you can avail yourself from the vendors outside the Mosque.
